I am unable to join an online lobby hosted by another player, but other people are able to join.
Check the firewall settings on your computer. Some anti-virus programs block connections by default. In addition, check the game's log file (see below on the page for where to find it) for mentions of connection failures because those may include further details about why the connection was denied.
I am hosting an online lobby, but nobody is able to connect to me.
If your router supports UPnP, try enabling the Use UPnP setting when hosting the lobby. The setting will be automatically disabled if your router does not support UPnP. If other users are still not able to connect to you,
then try one of following:
-
Enable port-forwarding on your router. The steps to accomplish this vary per router, so you'll need to look that up.
Tankken uses TCP for networking, so make sure to specify that if your router asks.
-
Use a proxy service like ngrok or playit.gg.
These services provide a new IP and port for you to give to your friends; no port forwarding needed. This is often easier than port forwarding.
If after doing either of these other players are still not able to connect to you, check the firewall settings on your computer to ensure that either the proxy service's port
or your forwarded port are allowed through.
Where is the log file located?
The game writes to a file named Player.log, which can be found in the following locations:
-
macOS: ~/Library/Logs/RRSoftware/Tankken
-
Windows: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\RRSoftware\Tankken
-
Linux: ~/.config/unity3d/RRSoftware/Tankken
-
Web: Open the developer console by pressing F12 or Cmd-Opt-i, and choose the Console tab.
